HOMESICK Since they’re only friggin 15 year olds with little to no life experience, I imagine they have a hard time finding a place to stay and just hop from trashy motel to shitty motel and for weeks it’s just “where do we go next, where do we get more money”. They only eat junk, rarely shower and just overall feel miserable but are too proud to admit they’ve hit rock-bottom. And they start getting aggressive and cold with each other, saying things they don’t really mean. Matt feels so lost and misses their room, their stuff, the tranquility and the fun they had.

Don’t know if that’s realistic in any way but the thought of not belonging anywhere hit really close to home for me.

Wenn sie mal wieder in irgendner Absteige pennen und einfach kein Zuhause haben. Matt macht das mehr zu schaffen als Mello und es nagt an ihm. Der Kontakt zwischen den beiden wird kühl. Kein Spaß mehr, nur noch “wohin als nächstes”. Sie können nichts mitnehmen, haben so gut wie kein Eigentum. Die fangen an, sich gegenseitig anzubitchen, sind super gereizt. Irgendwann ist der breaking point erreicht. Vielleicht geht’s mal im Streit auseinander, schreien sich an und werfen sich Sachen an den Kopf, die sie nicht so meinen. Matt stapft weg und kommt erstmal nicht wieder. Mello macht sich irgendwann schon Sorgen aus verschiedenen Gründen (”Scheiße, was, wenn der nicht wiederkommt?”) und geht ihn suchen. Vielleicht wenn er wieder zurückkommt, findet Mello ihn irgendwann nach Stunden nachts auf der Treppe vom Motel hocken, weinend? Mello ist überfordert, setzt sich schweigend zu ihm. ”I miss home. I miss my bed. I miss our room. Our stuff. I miss having fun. Everything turned so serious since we left.” Mello hört nur zu und sagt nix. Matt hat Recht und wenn er mal in sich geht, geht’s ihm genauso. Mello schiebt seine Gefühle nur meistens weg, weil er funktionieren muss. ”Yeah, me too. I miss the bells… and the library. I miss my bed, too. And even the bad food haha. It was so much more tranquil at home.” (pure nostalgic reminiscence of Wammy’s) — ”So what are we gonna do now? Go back?” (M) ”No way. We have a mission, don’t we? That’s why we came here in the first place.” (m) We need some structure, dude. And a better plan. m Do you wanna go grab something to eat first? M Oh yeah, I’m starving. m
